    Things you have fixed/modded recently

Heh, thanks. While I've done some soldering on tiny points before (and even some trace repairs), the last time that I came across something that needed this much repair (10 pads needed replacements as well as several traces) I binned the thing so I'm pleased as punch that this actually worked out.

    Things you have fixed/modded recently

It's been a busy week, since I can finally walk again somewhat normally so let's see: -Fixed the vacuum by 3D modeling/printing a new part for the head. -Replaced the polarizer on my Gamecube screen (It started looking weirdly burned, and when I opened it up it smelled rather vinegary). -RGHd...

    Weird NES cart issue

So, long overdue update (long story short, got the flu, managed to somehow injure first my left, and then my right foot, got a pretty severe headcold giving me a splitting headache for about a week, and as of a couple of days ago twisted my ankle pretty badly), wiring in a new EPROM did nothing...

    Weird NES cart issue

Yep mine can test logic chips, that's why I know that the 161 is fine. It won't do ram though. That said I've tried testing the RAM using a cart dumper and that one tells me that the RAM size is as expected, so that looks like its fine so far. I'm just going to try wiring in an EPROM to see if...

    Weird NES cart issue

So faulty is very unlikely at this point since I've replaced it with another chip from that board (again the board was working but extensive trace damage made it unable to read the cartridges), and I do think it's very unlikely that all three chips were suddenly faulty (plus diode testing on the...

    Weird NES cart issue

Oh I agree that the devs have probably dealt with it (especially as I know that this game did work at my grandmother's house way back when), but I wonder if the clone console messes with that somehow. I'd probably have to dig out my original NES to see which is something I did not want to have...

    Weird NES cart issue

Yep, it's an AMROM board, which the page does say has bus conflicts so maybe that's the issue? Granted even if that's the case I have no clue how to fix that so it won't help much (although it would mean that I'll know what the cause is at least).

    Weird NES cart issue

I'm not going to say it's impossible, but the board it came out of was working (main reason I scrapped that board was due to severe trace damage leading to the cartridge slots ). That and diode testing does suggest that it is working (all address/data lines test more or less the same etc.)...

    Weird NES cart issue

Yep, with the exception being that the CIC chip is the PAL one. (Well, that and all the changed components at this point. It originally looked like that though.)

    Weird NES cart issue

Not as far as I'm aware, the only thing that's on there is the 74HC161. No MMC chip at all (wish it had, since I could've swapped that out).

    Weird NES cart issue

Just reflowed the PRG, since that was the only thing left that wasn't replaced to no avail. As for the RAM chip it's a CX5864BSP-10L to replace the KM6264BL-10L, which as far as I can find from the datasheets should work. (8K CMOS high speed static ram with compatible pinout)

    Weird NES cart issue

The cart looks just like any other cart I suppose, there's nothing weird about it as far as i can see. As far as the traces on the cart, yes I've checked them all. there are three lifted pads but those are inconsequential, since they bridge the wide body old RAM to narrow body type chips (which...

    Weird NES cart issue

Just checked it again since I figured it could be a possibility that I damaged some traced replacing the chips but sadly it all goes where it should. The cart itself is normal, and all but the RAM chip (from a Neo Geo MVS board) and the caps are original parts (albeit with the CIC chip swapped...

    Weird NES cart issue

Yep, I cleaned it several times to no effect. It plays every other cart, and the thing that drives me mad is that If I take the dump and play it on a flash cart it works no problem. The only thing I can think of at this point is that there's some weird anti piracy that detects the NES clone as a...

    Weird NES cart issue

So, an update to this many a year later, I'm giving up on this. I've replaced the ram and caps, switched the CIC with a known working game, tested the 74hc161 chip (which indeed tested just fine), and even dumped the game only to see that it matches the roms found on the internet. No idea why it...

    Things you have fixed/modded recently

Soldered up the new LED ribbons for my Virtual Boy, which now works perfectly fine once again. Quite happy with the four bucks I spent on the new ribbons.

What did you Accomplish in Gaming Today?

Beat all bosses on Nightreign (all solo since I don't play online), and I have to say that this is not really the game for me. Mainly because I'm not a fan of the roguelike genre and this one couldn't buck that trend. Long story short, having to redo the level over and over again tends to get...

    Things you have fixed/modded recently

Fixed my headphones (a broken wire near the strain relief). These headphones are old, and, honestly, not great in quality but they do have a nice long lead. Soldering the wires was simple enough, the problem was getting into the bloody thing. Other than that I've repurposed an old taillight by...

    Things you have fixed/modded recently

Managed to fix my xbox 360. A couple of years ago a botched attempt at RGH-ing the console caused a resistor to be ripped from the motherboard (this sadly included the pads). Now, years later I managed to solder a slightly larger (0805) 10K resistor to the trace on one side, and to a via flooded...

Hardware Odd Disc Drive Behavior (Plays Blu-Ray, CDs, not DVDs)

While it certainly could be a laser issue, since your ps3 has been jailbroken could the DVD region be set to the wrong region? (I don't quite remember how to set the region, but I do remember that it's possible to do so)
