    SNES screen interference

Nice. Glad to hear it did the trick :)

    SNES screen interference

It does look normal, but I've had some systems where the output measured 4.99v but there were still wavy lines in the video. Replacing it solved the issue for me with those consoles, so it could still be the 7805 even if the output seems normal. I still think it's worth a shot, since the part is...

PAL SNES having a black screen of death (Sometimes flickers green)

It sounds like this unit has a bad CPU. Before spending too much time doing mods on it, get a known good working game just to rule out the possibility that your Super Mario World cartridge is bad. Some cheap sports game would do the trick. 9 times out of 10 if you just get a black screen or...

    SNES screen interference

It's a little bit hard to tell for sure from the video, but this looks like the 7805 voltage regulator is bad. Those waves could also be caused by cheap aftermarket AC adapters, but since you're using a genuine one it's probably fine. It's easy and cheap to replace the voltage regulator as long...

    Hardware remove smell from 3ds?

The only way to get rid of the odor entirely is to fully disassemble the console and wash the housing with soap and water, just like dirty dishes. 3DSes can be filthy. Sometimes I even find dead bugs inside. However, if you don't want to open the system, you can still do a pretty good job...

Hardware What's up with the demand/price spike?

One thing to remember is that lots of those "sales" are never paid for. Looking at a search of recently completed listings only shows the ending prices, but it doesn't tell you which auctions were actually paid for. So the average price paid for 3DS consoles is probably a good bit less than the...

Hardware Is my screen bottom spoil?

Most likely it's the screen that's bad. If there had been liquid damage, there would be a slim chance the problem could be due to corrosion in the connector itself preventing some of the pins inside from making proper contact with the ribbon cable connector. But usually when the screen is light...

Hardware Fixing an O3DS XL's volume slider?

Sounds like the plastic got a little bit bent so the slider can't move back and forth smoothly. The 3DS XL volume slider is easy to access and replace. Once you remove the back of the console you can reach it immediately, though you might want to remove the analog stick as well so you have a bit...

Hardware Please help with O3DSXL that fell in water

The ribbon cable for the speakers may not actually be torn, but if the pins inside the P7 connector are not making contact with the conductors, you have the same problem as if it were actually torn. That's why the system makes the popping sound and shuts off. The circuit to the upper screen...

    Hardware Odd issue with o3ds

This is way more trouble than it's worth, but you actually can open up the LCD and clean out the coffee. When liquid spills on the LCD it leaves stains on the backlight when it dries. You can often clean it off using isopropyl alchohol and a microfiber cloth. It's really hard to do without...

Hardware Circle pad is messed up.... how can I tell what is wrong?

Do you mean this? If so, yes, you do have to remove that. It's held down by just two long silver screws. But there's no need to remove anything else like the guide suggests.

Hardware Circle pad is messed up.... how can I tell what is wrong?

Yep, you can do that easily without removing anything else. The iFixit guide is great, but they suggest removing the entire motherboard to replace the circle pad, which is totally unnecessary. Just remove the back cover of the 3DS, remove the 2 long silver screws that hold the analog stick in...

    Hardware O3DS repair?

Even after replacing the lower LCD the top screen still flashes and the unit powers off? Yikes, that doesn't sound good. There could actually be a problem with the p12 connector if that's the case. I can't be 100% sure, but this console really seems to have multiple problems. I do still think...

Hardware O3DS Top Screen Repairment Hardmod

Ah, I see. If that's the case they would most likely either update the console or simply refuse to repair it.

Hardware O3DS Top Screen Repairment Hardmod

No, I'm sorry, I don't have any firsthand experience with online repair services, so I can't recommend any. There are some 3DS repair services on eBay, but I've never used any of them. If you haven't already opened it up though Nintendo might actually fix it if you pay for the repair.

Hardware O3DS Top Screen Repairment Hardmod

Sure. You can't really fix the torn ribbon cable, but you can replace the entire LCD and the WiFi antenna. If you're going to do the repair yourself you should replace both the upper LCD and the WiFi antenna at the same time, so you don't have to disassemble the console twice. You can basically...

Hardware O3DS Top Screen Repairment Hardmod

The green cable is for the WiFi antenna. The system will still work if you don't replace it, but you won't be able to connect to any WiFi networks.

    Hardware O3DS repair?

Ah, well in that case you may also have a bad speaker cable. If that's the case, it really might be easier to just buy a working used 3DS and swap motherboards. You could then sell the broken parts and the working motherboard from the replacement system.

    Hardware O3DS repair?

That's actually good news then, since if those are the only problems you won't have to open up the top half of the console. The P12 connector is for the lower screen backlight. The ribbon being torn is probably what's causing the the top screen to flash and the system to fail to boot. If the...

    Hardware O3DS repair?

Are you positive it's the top screen that's flashing? If so that could be an easy repair. Usually it's the bottom screen that flashes, which indicates a problem with the speaker cable. Sometimes if the bottom screen flashes it sort of reflects off the top screen display lens and looks like the...
