Minimalist and gaming aesthetic in equal measure

While its name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, the Xiaomi Curved Gaming Monitor G34WQi 2026 is a beautiful piece of technology. Its thin bezels, curved display and minimal design attest to Xiaomi’s craftsmanship. It is very easy to assemble out of the box and you are ready to use it within a few minutes.

Xiaomi also added a touch of “gamer flair” to the G34WQi 2026 with the rear LED ring. You can set a lighting pattern, change the colour or simply switch it off to maintain the minimalist aesthetic. It’s a welcome addition that can make the device more unique without packing too much RGB for its own good.

Further customisation comes with the positioning of the monitor. Height, tilt, and swivel adjustments are all options here to make using it comfortable for the user. These options are great to cater to varying user needs and gaming setups.

While the hardware is on the minimalist end of the spectrum, Xiaomi has also been minimal in terms of accessories. The monitor is packaged with a base and a DP cable. However, an HDMI cable, aux cord and a wall mount would be welcome, considering the cost of the device.

Regarding ports, the G34WQi 2026 has two DP and two HDMI, which should be sufficient for most cases. However, their placement isn’t optimal. The ports are positioned behind the screen, around where the monitor attaches to the base bracket. This is far from optimal and is actually tricky to plug cables into. Having the ports more accessible on the sides or more closer to the edges would have gone a long way at taking away the current inconvenience.

The G34WQi 2026 says that a real PC monitor has curves

Not really getting the hype; I never got into the curved monitor trend. I was just fine with regular, flat ones, until I tried the Xiaomi Curved Gaming Monitor G34WQi 2026. Being the first curved gaming monitor I tried, I must say, it made its case.

Xiaomi touts that this monitor’s curvature was designed to mirror the natural curvature of the human eye. As a result, the screen aligns with visual perception. While I cannot really verify the eye curvature aspect, I’ll admit that the curved display effect fades when focusing at the screen. Being 34” in size, this makes for generous real estate to display images. As a result, PC games really benefit from it. The ultrawide aspect and thin bezels really make virtual worlds feel more immersive.

This is complemented by the excellent screen itself. It has a wide colour gamut coverage (95% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB) and rich colour reproduction (10-bit colour depth), which results in vivid, faithful images. Panoramic scenes from games such as Cairn really benefit from this 2K display, and I look forward to playing The Blood of Dawnwalker on it. Boasting up to 180Hz refresh rate, games are as fluid as they are sharply displayed.  With 400nits of brightness, it can get really bright, making it suited for differing ambient lighting conditions.

You can further adjust the display settings such as the mode, hue, colour temperature and mode via the built-in menu. It is accessed via the nub at the back of the monitor, on the lower right end.

While the visuals are excellent, the G34WQi 2026 is devoid of speakers. True, integrated speakers might not do the same level of immersive justice to the games it displays, but they would be handy for regular, non-gaming use. As a result, you have to rely on external speakers for your audio needs when using this curved gaming monitor.

Excellent for PC gaming, some compromises for other uses

The Xiaomi Curved Gaming Monitor G34WQi 2026 is excellent for PC gaming, but for other uses, it will have its limitations. Most videos don’t natively support ultrawide resolutions, nor do consoles. As a result, you will experience black bars when streaming a video or playing games from a console. It’s not an issue with the device but rather a lack of support for such dimensions by services and non-PC devices.

It’s worth keeping this in mind if you are considering this monitor. For regular uses, such as browsing or using other PC software, it works great. Most contemporary PC games support ultrawide resolutions, so if you are mainly a PC gamer, the Xiaomi Curved Gaming Monitor G34WQi 2026 is well worth looking into. While it isn't exactly cheap, the whole package is a compelling offer.

I switched from a 34 inch ultrawide recently, I would be lying if I didn't miss it especially for productivity where it was excellent.
