And you know the music is amazing when you have a game where you can race while listening to Oh Yeah (also auto-plays when you fail)! Also Kaiser Chiefs and a TON of other great bands/songs... DAMN I miss good quality games!
I prefer the Forza Motorsport series but still, GT4 is probably where Gran Turismo reached its peak and also what inspired Turn10 to create the original Forza Motorsport.
Forza is a fun series and all, but thing I absolutely love about GT4 is the sheer variety of things to do and cars to get and mod! GT4 has ALMOST all cars ever made in it, well over 100 different great songs, different modes like racing/driver's test/etc. and so on! It's easily a game you can put 500 hours in without getting bored
(1/3) well, it's true that GT4 featured a lot more cars than FM (721 cars vs 200+), but I found a lot of those to be filler only. They'd often have the same car multiple times but with different "special edition" names to it (which isn't necessarilly bad, but in reality it greatly reduces the variety), other cars (like the 1886 Daimler Motor Carriage) were really olny a novelty, and a third set of cars was totally
(2/3)undesirable to drive in the first place, like a lot of mid 80s cheap japanese cars that were not only slow but also not very customizable or fun to drive.
Forza Motorsport for the original xbox felt more focussed on cars that are desirable and a hoot to drive. I also though the driving physics felt more natural and sophisticated. The fact that FM also used mostly real-life tracks vs. the original tracks in GT4
(3/3)made it feel more realistic as well. Not really saying GT4 was bad. I enjoyed it quite a lot until I came accross FM. I am just saying that FM resonated with me more because it felt more detailed and not simply focused on "big numbers"
Are you kidding me? Literally the most fun I've ever had in a game was me with a friend originally trying to do versus multiplayer with one of the ancient cars (that couldn't even go above 20KM/s with 40 on downhill if it was a bit one) only for us to get stuck for 3 or so hours just laughing our asses off because we got stuck on an uphill and would try all sorts of shit to get through!
Ramming each other up the hill, dashing a while before going uphill and so on when it was just a 5% slope, lol! You call that filler and sure, in a serious race they are useless, but just for fun vs the same car they are hilarious if you are playing with friends
As for different editions, I actually liked it, for example Toyota RSC is one of my most hated cars in base version while the Rally Raid version is one of my favorite in the game! And it's not actually the same car, if you pay close attention, their tuning, stats, etc. are actually different 99% of the time, so different versions can be better or worse at different things.
For example, the RSC I mentioned is a 4WD but it's literally crap compared to Impreza or Lancer Evo, when the Rally Raid version is tuned differently with different type of engine so it's easily the best off-road vehicle in the entire game!
And there are LOT of other things in there that 99% of other racing games don't even have like slipstream/wind resistance, tire wear/heat/grip and whatnot making it easily the most realistic driving game out the ones made, even things like Project Cars or Assetto Corsa haven't gone that much into details of that sort.
About the cars that were "bad" again, I actually liked MOST just as a collection, plus sometimes you were required to use specific cars vs the same car, making it really fun even for something that should have been a boring ride...
For example, I still remember that driving mission where you had to race using a cube minivan vs 11 other same ones just so you could learn about slipstream, SO slooooooooooww and "boring" yet was so exciting I would just do it over and over just for the lolz!
Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
