I know what you mean but the main reason you get that feel from it is because it's one of the few Ghibli films that are CG, good CG though Doubt it would have come out good if they had gone with their usual handrawn animation and all that...
Pretty much all of what you see at any given time is around 20-50% CG (the god of the forest, the moving backgrounds, the animations, the boar at the start, etc.). It's just so well done it's hard to notice, too bad CG gets a bad rep just because it's just bad CG that's recognizable...
