It actually depends entirely on what part of Tokyo you visit really... If you only go to the flashy famous spots, of course it will give you that impression, but go to places like Ueno for example and it's completely different:P Also, for the record, Tokyo is NOT a city, it's 23 "cities" merged into one metropolitan area...

Yeah, that's right. Well, I went a little to Ueno, Shinjuku, Odaiba, Akasaka, Asakusa, Akihabara, Shibuya, Mitaka, Meguro, etc. I guess Ueno was OK. The ones I didn't like that much were Shinjuku (too packed) and Akihabara (smelly)... and Odaiba, that really was a very fake amusement park-like island, but it was enjoyable nonetheless, like an amusement park.
