I prefer Linux Mint over Ubuntu. Uses slightly less resources, has a better software manager, is just as easy to use for beginners (if not easier) and supports various software and codecs by default

I cannot in good faith recommend installing a Linux-based operating system onto a desktop machine any longer, there's just too many unsupported pieces of both hardware and software.

I actually rarely find any hardware that isn’t supported, especially older hardware. Software is also growing compared to before

Audio cards that have features that are software controlled are just one example I can think of of hardware that isn't (at least fully) supported by Linux.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve yet to find a significant amount of people effected by such a situation. I can look into it though to see if it’s something worth looking out for
