If you have a modchip installed you can always burn the Game Boy Player disc image onto a mini DVD-R and boot it there. There's no lockout restrictions based on the hardware and the console with every regional version so you should be good especially when these discs are now stupid collectors items.
Those discs are a bit more of a collectible than they are worth though, GBI is miles ahead. Still worth using if you want to use it on a stock machine, though!
