The lithium ion battery needs replacing, you'll have to be careful when taking it apart. Maybe afterwards you could region unlock it to play any DVD from any region, that is, if there's a list of available codes online.

Sadly li-ion batteries age even if unused. Not surprising the battery is dead. Shouldn't be too to repair if you care.

You should test the drive with DVDs and CDs to make sure it is okay before investing time and money. I also have such a player. Nice thing.

And it shouldn't be too difficult to find a replacement laser either, I don't know if it's just me, but a lot of those generic DVD players always have the same cheap laser assembly. Usually with Sony branding or just a normal laser with red plastic.

@SylverReZ the only reason I bought the specific portable DVD player I did is because its the same as the one I used to have when I was younger (different model number so a bit different), so i guess i bought based on nostalgia lol, the one I bought was used but has every accessory + box and the only problem is the battery. 1/2

The only reason I don't have my old one is because its sound broke. I tried taking it apart to look for anything visually wrong, ended up breaking it (its not easy to take it apart). But idk, it works perfectly besides the battery, sylvania my beloved, and also I set the region to 0 so it plays any dvd! 2/2
