Do you mean in terms of ROM hacks or just in general? Assuming ROM hacks since you mention programmers.

Well, im referring to both actually! As a standalone game, and as the basis for several ROM Hacks.

My best guess is that it's just the definitive Hoenn game, so it's the one people would choose to both play and modify. You have sprite animations, extra areas, the Battle Frontier.

It just makes sense to play/develop for the fuller base experience. Similar to how you see a lot more Pokemon Crystal hacks than GS.

Makes a bunch of sense. Ditto for Platinum for Gen IV. I guess the only game that you don't see a lot of ROM Hacks for is Gen V.

The DS games as a whole haven't seen a huge amount of stuff, though with decompilation projects advancing steadily they'll get their time in the light eventually. I'm holding out home that Team Luminescent manage to get their BDSP decomp project out in the open before long. That really could be a new gold standard for fan-made Pokemon games given it's a Unity base.

I will only play BDSP if there's a version of the game that includes all platinum content and has almost alp Pokemon from all generations to play. If the Switch Successor comes out and the next Pokemon game comes without all Pokemon accessible, I'm not playing it
