Everything is nowadays. Ive had 3 "gaming" laptops die on me over the last 3 years...all have lasted about 6-7months

Mine works correctly, but I did have that issue with the DisplayLink monitors at my old job until I discovered the secret setting on DisplayLink to enable "retina" displays. But DisplayLink also is not great... the external monitor story on macOS is pretty bad as a whole.

How did make the text readable? Or was that just automatic? I can select the resolution no problem but the text instantly becomes ant sized
Could it be my USB C hub maybe? It worked fine on my old windows machine but maybe theres something weird going on there?

So the way macOS shows resolutions is pretty bad. When you select the option for a lower resolution, you often are not selecting that lower resolution but instead an equivalent scaled resolution.
