I have the Link's Awakening Redux ROMhack on a dedicated repro cart, this is just the vanilla game on the OEM PCB from Nintendo.

I eventually wanna move all my MBC1 ROM carts to MBC5 donor boards and then give them FRAM upgrades, metal shells, new stickers, etc just like this. All 3 Mario Land games would be idea. Pokemon Red and Blue as well.

A metal shell wouldn't cause some kind of short? Or it's like the pcb pins not touching the metal?
