The fundamental flaw in the luxury(!) concept "car" is moving 1 to 2 metric tons of metal/plastic for moving – in most cases – a single human being < 100kg.
Replacing every combustion with an electric car 1:1, is trying to not let go this problematic concept in any way. I cannot fully exonerate myself in this regard because driving the car through long, open roads seeing nice landscapes IS enjoyable.

Concerning electric cars: As long as one extends the exhaust pipe (coal power station providing energy) there is little to no benefit in producing giant batteries (which needs energy and causes pollution itself) over combustion engines.
