The developer works now for Google. Conflict of interests. He may continue Magisk development, but should not circumvent Google "Security" features like Safety Net.

Can you downgrade?
Maybe a fork will continue those features??

Not owning devices we paid for is sadly widely accepted… I guess the days of having root/admin access on any of our computers will come to an end very soon.

If only somebody had warned us that this kind of "security" will backfire at some point… now almost everybody depends on "smart" devices they don't own and slow but sure the thumbscrews are tightened.

I know why I avoided Android as long as possible and still don't use it as a computer (I need a phone for emergency purposes). Apple "walled garden" is even worse.

Yeah I know the story, kinda sad. He is pretty talented but now it can't be helped. Surely there will be another person or team in the future who will help in this regard, but who knows how long it will take for that time to come.

I just downgraded but the process needed uninstallation since the latest update removed key features, so now I've lost all my modules and settings to start from scratch...

What do you mean by not using an Android as a computer, what kind of use cases are you referring to? Before the SafetyNet update and whatnot, root used to be great. Even without it an Android is super handy for all kinds of things, not sure why one would avoid it while there is still a lot that can be done in the convenience of your palm.

Android as computer:
*Logging in (mail, bank, GBAtemp…)
*shopping
*Entering personal data
*Active Google apps or even having a Google account
Having a privacy disaster in my palm is pure stress. It is a statement as well: I am root on my device, not the manufacturer – nobody has control over a device with Play Services. Same reason for modding consoles (I’ve no interest in illegal copies).

I despise what smartphones have done with society. People walk around like zombies staring on their phones. On the rare occasions I drive my car, smartphone-zombies staggering onto the street are my worst nightmare.
The one-and-only current world event made people avoiding smartphones even more like an alien. How long will I still be allowed to not use a device I don’t own?

I see, I'm personally fine with doing those tasks, in reality there's really no way for true privacy. As time goes on, people in power will always try to find a way to find more power, and one of them is information. If it's not the state of technical privacy invasion that we have now, there would be another route for this instead anyway.

All we can do is make use of the gaps where you are most likely on your own, there's no need for paranoia. I am reminded of a story where a king wanted to build the most secure palace imaginable due to his intense fear of being killed. Long story short, he achieved it, but at the cost of his enjoyment of life. He had basically barred himself from the outside world; no windows, guests, friendship, trust, etc.

He had the safest place imaginable, but it was so solitary that he eventually realized after talking to a beggar that he really isn't living life anymore, so the point of protecting it when you have already lost it becomes a pointless endeavor. Same way with the desire for privacy, it's best to keep it within limits and understand that it's a pipe dream to truly have it, especially today.

As for people misusing smartphones, that is inevitable and the blame is not for the phones. The same people are destined to do similar retarded things given any other opportunity unless they grow. One could argue real life interaction really suffered with the inception of the phone, but on the other hand now the real life interactions at least have more meaning to them.

Before people wanted to say something to the next person just for the sake of conversation, all being fake to one another. Now that is on the phone, and now a lot of the interactions in the real world at least have some purpose or drive to them. Any genuine individual would still interact in the real world like how they would in the past.

And as for zombies, those people are anyway somnambulist; phone or no phone. I've seen so many people without anything just walking on the street, but walk like they have no consciousness of what they are doing and manage to do the stupidest things when it comes to bumping into moving traffic. They will always have no idea.

I disagree with the parable of the king in the castle. Not being able to achieve 100% privacy doesn't mean trying to achieve good privacy is moot or useless. I would feel horrible, like stark naked, carrying a phone with all that stuff running – and don't feel like the lone king right now.

As long as people respect/accept my opinion, I'm fine with theirs. You have no idea how often I have been insulted for my point of view.

I believe you misinterpreted the point regarding the story, when I mentioned truly achieving privacy, I meant it in a complete way. I never said trying to have privacy is something anyone shouldn't try, only the degree of it should be limited and not be taken that seriously. You don't feel like the king perhaps because it didn't or has yet to go that far, but one of the symptoms of that fear is already present.

Maybe it's due to phone use while walking is very common where you live so you haven't seen it, but where I'm from it's still rare to find anyone walking while on their phone. And in this situation I frequently see the most sleep walking like states you could imagine, moreso obvious when I'm in the car where my dad is driving.

He yells and complains to us pointing out frequently at those unaware people walking like idiots straight into danger with faces of no expression, almost hard to believe how dead they look and act. Also yes, screw the char limit lol.

my main problem with doing things on a phone is that my current workflow is very very very heavily leaning on keyboard shortcuts(hell, i use vim as my main text editor) and it's just not as nice doing things by touch
