i also like the alternative controls of hd but dont like the price of hd. at the same time a wii/wii u might be more expensive and less useful in the long run.

Just for that game? If so then the HD version is way better, I'm very happy with it. So if SS is your only goal, HD is the best bet, it's also cheaper (depends).
If not, then a console is obviously better since you can do much more with it.
