I just saw that shared today on FB from one of my coworkers, reshared it on my end too. Disappointing that there wasn't one sooner, as I'm assuming that the general suicide hotlines may not be well equipped to best help with some of the hardsips Trans folk might be facing, but I'm glad that one does exist now regardless.

Sicklyboy it blows my mind just how far behind America is with everything trans related. Especially people's beliefs. I also just read the link below and was amazed that its taken this long for you guys to do this.

Yep. I'm glad that that decision was made. I'm really disappointed that it had to be made at all, though, that discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity was even debatably OK. :/

So why were separate ones needed over having general purpose ones, or improving those if they were lacking?
I could see maybe having a dedicated general counselling/talk line for such things but why confuse the issue for those about to dine upon a bullet or see if they can fly?

Fast6191 to make sure the Trans person needing help does not get through to someone who is transphobic on the other end of the line.

Is that a noted problem among hotline workers before now? Much less is it one worth splitting a triage (hang up and call/hold on while I transfer you is dubious if this is a last ditch at a connection) scenario for?
Most crisis hotline types I have spoken to tend to be selected for the ability to connect regardless of what the nominal/perceived cause is (it is not trivial to that person being about the first thing).

Oh I do get your point and somewhat agree but some trans people don't and would rather speak to a dedicated trans worker. No different than most women wanting to discuss medical issues witj a woman doctor and vice versa.

I should add the people that work on the numbers I listed in the UK are also transgender.

Still seems like a fractured approach. I am sure squaddies would rather talk to someone that held a rifle, medics to medics, those in grief, those in debt, those that just suffered/discovered infidelity, those in... but regardless of that I can not get anywhere near it being backwards to not have specialists for all of the various things. Also curious what the approaches will be vis a vis various routes available.

Bottom line its better that people have options is it not?
