Takes a lot of time, and it can be hard to find new music that is related. I have found a lot of new obscure stuff I like on Spotify.

I think what you do would be more rewarding in some ways, but it would be more difficult. You can't beat the convenience of Spotify.

I really like the shuffle option in Spotify, makes me discover new songs based on what I like.

I can see that, but it's really rewarding to have your own library, especially when it has obscure stuff that's not on traditional streaming services - god knows I have my fair share of that

"it can be hard to find new music that is related"
Isn't that something like what LastFM does?

I only use Spotify to build up a collection and find new songs that I like, then proceed to download them all in .flac with every bit of metadata intact.

@kikongokiller lmao
I entirely deleted my Spotify, I used it so little

There's definitely some merit to having it, like if you want to share a song with one of your friends or cast it to your xbox or other device

Saying that, I'll probably end up just getting rid of it as well in favour of having my music all local

I remember seeing mobile phone apps that let you cast local media to a Roku or Chromecast, I wonder if they would work with an Xbox
Doesn't matter to me anyways, I don't even store my music locally, I stream it from my cloud storage

I've got my Pi running a upnp and smb server through Kodi so most of my devices can access the music as well! Definitely beats having to sit through constant ads and horrible shuffling that doesn't work well

I don't even have to run my shit on a Pi, I use a pre-hosted solution that I was introduced to through Reddit
may I introduce to you my lord and savior Astiga https://asti.ga

That does seem pretty neat and I gotta commend their commitment to privacy, but I'm personally not too big on cloud-based solutions. I might have to consider it for when I can't listen to my music at home though
