Grass is average speed with Grass Surge and barely decent attack to justify not being fast, Water has Sniper and is a VERY fast special sweeper outspeeding every other sweeping water and Fire is just Protean Greninja on steroids...

I mean, isn't this how it's always been? Look at Meganium lol, most gens there's like one good starter? Maybe two? Grass is generally the one to suffer.

Meganium might be crap, but the other two starters from gen 2 are balanced by being neither too strong or too weak. First gen had a similar situation, where all 3 were averagely strong, gen 3 too (before Hidden Abilities) and gens 4 and 5 as well, all average with either one or two each gen being slightly above average but never broken OP that makes other choices crap...

Gen 6 with Protean Greninja was when the balance went to shit, just look at it, Greninja was in Ubers, the other two hardly even saw any use outside the story! Now we got a Fire type version of Greninja with an ability similar to Protean so you always get STAB, but physical with MUCH more attack than G's Special Attack and BOTH priority moves AND Flame Charge, PLUS Acrobatics!

I shouldn't have to say this, but do you know how hard STAB Acrobatics +1 (Bulk Up) hits after you lose your Focus Sash? It can one shot walls! Even without Flame Charge, it still has 119 base speed, which means it can outspeed almost everything in the game...

I mean, if we're talking tiers, all of Gen 1 suck, Gatr is the only decent Gen 2, Blaziken is Ubers, the other two needed their mega evolutions to even pretend to be relevant (and lol, Gen 3 HAs? Damp Swampert??), Gen 4 Infernape eclipses the others, Gen 5 Serperior eclipses the others, then like you said, Greninja wins out in Gen 6.

"Only decent Gen 2" when Typhlosion has been top tier MANY times like when it was one of the most powerful Pokemon for doubles when paired with Starmie in Gen 5 since it has Lava Plume, Eruption and in gen 7 Burn Up... Gatr is average and NEEDS to use Dragon Dance first, so yeah, but still, both are just above average in general, neither is broken or too weak.

Unburden Sceptile is actually strong in gen 5 because of Flying Gem Acrobatics and in gen 6/7 Focus Sash Unburden Frenzy Plant to make sure to go out with a bang! Swampert has been high tier for most of it's lifetime because it only has 1 weakness and uses Stealth Rock, so there's that too.

Infernape is pretty good but still just above average, while Empoleon and Torterra are both exactly average (in some cases even better than Infernape since they both have good typings). Serperior even with Contrary isn't THAT strong since without a boost it hits terribly, plus only has Grass attacks and Dragon Pulse for the most part, so shit coverage.
