I will, I'm off to cook some food soon but since you said you did music, let me ask what stuff you do and what instruments you like ^^
and I'll be back later to talk more ^^

Alright. But my music taste is kinda strange. I like electronic music, especially old synthesizer stuff from the 70s, I also like prog rock, jazz, blues and other music that experiments with improvisation, unconventional rhythms and tunes. I'm very interested in folk music, both the real trad stuff and modern interpretations of it. In fact the only stuff I really dislike is rap music. I get no enjoyment out of it.

I don't play any instrument yet, but I'm planning on getting a little synthie for myself. I really wanted to play guitar, but I broke my hand and now I have trouble strumming.

I even enjoy singing folk songs, but I wouldn't do it in public. Lol...

Maybe kinda hard to like my music, I know, but that's me! :3

Ok, I'll go and get something to eat, too. I'll check back later.

ah I love the synth stuff too :3 in earlier times I was really partial to FM synth but now I'm getting drawn into analogue synth stuff :3
Have you heard about the yamaha refaces?
have a nice meal too ^^
Reynardine

Thank you!

Oh, that's neat. I was thinking of getting a Yamaha. Haven't looked at prices yet or what would be suitable to a newcomer.

The Yamaha refaces look lovely. Hey, thanks for mentioning that!

Messages are kinda limited, I have to split them.

I like the analogue stuff from the 70s. I think it's really cool seeing bands like Tangerine Dream operate their giant Moogs and other equipment in old video footage. I wish I could have experienced that live. c:

I think analogue synths sound warmer, a bit different from the digital stuff.

You seem pretty cool. I'm happy I decided to write to you. :3

I would totally get a reface CS if I didn't already have another Yamaha keyboard x3
And yeah analogue sound is pretty awesome, but also easily overrated, mere vst's can get you a good bit of the way there if you can mix them correctly c; of course if you are performing in a band or anything, never use a vst xD

Aww thanks and same uwu good new friends!

Yay! UwU
Hihi!

Aw, I'm in love with these Yamahas, I want one of those! :p
The price is steep for me, though. I may have to look for an alternative, or maybe used hardware, but I'm not a fan of that.

Hmm, maybe you're right with the overrated bit. I think it was because the style of my favourite artists changed that I prefer the 70s sound.
Spring_Spring
Spring_Spring
what's your budget?
you can always get a slightly older model, there isn't one of the refaces but there are of other brands and oldness doesn't mean a worse sound, as you know cx
Reynardine

Hmm, I don't earn much money, but I had a talk with my parents. About 200€ should be the max for now.

They are worried whether I'll care enough to really make use of it.
If you know anything that might be an option I'm happy for suggestions. :3

I could also try for used stuff.
Spring_Spring
Spring_Spring
well, it depends a lot on if you really care about it being analog, since that's really what is pushing the price up, if you would be satisfied with using a midi controller to play sounds from vst's, you would save vast amounts of money :3
Spring_Spring
Spring_Spring
since you can find free vst's with very high quality sound, no worse than commercial vst's. And you can find a free program to host the vst's too, if you need help with figuring out the software bits, I can help you :3
Spring_Spring
Spring_Spring
but you need to weigh the choice if you really care about it being analog, also keep in mind analogue synths are also more tricky to record from than midi controllers ^^ you need cables for that and stuff, and those also cost lots of money, so yeah. If you care about value for money, software is by far the best ^^
Reynardine
Reynardine
That sounds to me like midi controller is the way to go. I don't think going analogue is going to enhance the sound that much.

The thought of using analogue equipment is fancy, but it's probably not worth paying much more for that for a beginner like me. Thanks again. ^-^

Spring_Spring
no problem and I definitely agree! if you need any help with the software just let me know! I'll plug 3 programs right away:
Either LMMS or OpenMPT for DAW, depending on what workflow you prefer ^^
And for VST's, Obxd and dexed are excellent for synth and I use those two a lot. I also know a site with thousands of free downloadable samples, for drum sounds, etc.
But can't post links since I'm a noob xP
Spring_Spring
Spring_Spring
oh yeah! if you need effects plugins, get the kjærhus audio ones, all free too!
Spring_Spring
Spring_Spring
good luck with your productions x3

So DAW does what the sequencers did in earlier times. I'm currently reading up on stuff.

Hey, thank you Floffle, I'll get back to you once everything is set in stone. Having someone to ask if I happen to get stuck with setting up and getting things running is awesome. I appreciate it! ^-^

So cool having a new furbuddy who knows a thing or two about synth stuff, totally awesome! :3

And what a coincidence, haha.

I have to go to sleep soon. It's stupid that you can't send pm's yet. Maybe we can do something about that tomorrow.
