It's wonderful when people keep the old consoles alive. I like both ports of games to other consoles and also original homebrew games that people come up with.

I find it fascinating to see homebrew ports of games to consoles that are weaker than the hardware the game was originally made for. Things like Super Mario Bros on Atari 2600 and whatnot...

I'm a fan of older consoles as well but what super Mario bros on the Atari 2600 that's news to me!

Sorry for the gameplay video with commentary, it was the best I found with a quick search.

If I remember correctly it wound up in some copyright controversy and disappeared, I still have the binary of it.

Heh, but of course it got wound up in a copyright controversy, Nintendo is keen on not letting such things see a day under the sun.
remember Pokemon prism it got taken down almost immediately after being announced. in spite of that many leaks surfaced on the internet and the general user got to enjoy it in the and that's what mattered :D

That's true. In fact homebrewers should know better. In the case of a Sonic homebrew for Atari 2600 the dev changed the sprite and gave the game a different name to prevent this from happening.

Hmm, if I were to relase such a game I'd just leak it anonymously and be done with it. On the other hand, of course you'd want to show it when you're working on something like that.

Unfortunately I know nothing about game coding for consoles. I wish I could have my own try at writing a game for a classic console.

The best I can do is some limited romhacking. I created some custom Super Mario Advance 4 e-Reader levels via hex editing a few years ago.

removing your identity and not associating it with them is surely a nice way to go. that said they could still track you down if they went all out lol.
renaming the sprite was a bit of a smart move on them.
ROM hacks huh, I've done some bizarre ROM hacks in the past, namely weird ones with level 100 pokemon on the first route, and such

Lol. That just reminds me of something. There's a rom corruptor tool for NES and SNES games. I saw that in a livestream.

I think I'll go have some fun with that. It causes all sorts of hilarious glitches and weirdness in the games, you never know what to expect. ;p
