GBA DS Style — A Nintendo DS-Inspired Custom Kernel for EZ-Flash Omega & Omega DE

~~For anyone interested in trying the expanded cheat support, an experimental Omega DE build is available here~~.

Unfortunately, the expanded cheat engine pushes the kernel beyond the size limit of the original Omega, so this test is only available for the Omega Definitive Edition.

Skiller’s converter can be used to create cheats in the expanded format. This is an external tool and is not maintained as part of DS Style.

I do not personally use cheats, so I will not be able to troubleshoot individual cheat codes, formats, or converter issues. Please treat this as an experimental build, back up your saves before testing.

Thank you to Skiller for contributing the expanded cheat-engine work.

Edit: It has come to my attention that this code was incredibly likely to be both 100% AI generated and also completely untested, as the uploader doesn't own an EZ Flash Omega. I have removed the test build for the safety of users' cartridges.

Hi! I was wondering if the DS Style Thumbnail Scraper could be updated to support scraping for other systems (Game Boy, Game Boy Color, PC Engine, etc) that are supported by the emulators? I use custom art for those games now, but it would be nice to not have to manually source every thumbnail for non-GBA games.

It's not finished for the standalone Thumbnail Scraper exe but it's working on the online manager I am currently making

I noticed that in 7.1 and 7.2 the quick start menu has some words overlapping each others in French. I assume some should be shortened.

Version 7.3 is now available!

This is a smaller update focused on bug fixes and general menu polish.

Fixed translated save-type labels overlapping their values in the game launch menu.
Improved List + Art drawing and transitions from the standard List view.
Refined the cheat screen, with smoother navigation.
Fixed the Help screen clock and page indicator not refreshing correctly.
Fixed artwork borders flickering in the horizontal carousel.
Added support for full-screen themes without a separate top bar through Customiser v2.0.

As always, please let me know if you spot any issues. Thank you to everyone who reported the problems addressed in this update!

i was reading the update page for the DE is it now only for the new REV B now..?

No, it is not only for Rev.B. DS Style supports both Omega Definitive Edition revisions:

Rev.A running Firmware 5.0
Rev.B running Firmware 7.0

The warning is for the newly released Omega Definitive Edition B, which is marked EZODE-B, and is unsupported. That is a separate third model and is not the same. Rev.A and Rev.B can be thought of as functionally identical, and run the same kernel.

Been Working on Optimizing the kernal .
been able to cutout almost 20kbs . thats with the Enhanced cheat engine, fix to savestates..
just a pain

Nice! What did you change with the save states? And I assume you mean 20 KB rather than 20 MB? The entire kernel is only ~2 MB

and yes 20kb lol attached is the changes made to your Current 7.03 .
for Optimization and the Latest Code engine . .
Note: i mainly did this to help someone out and they are my source of Testing since i dont actualy have the device. to me it just seem odd why they only supported 8bit , 16bit and 32bit codes

But since then its kind of been intresting to take a look at since theere had been a few bugs .

So if u do use the Enhanced files and notice something off please let me know

For the Savestate it seems there was some inconsistincys when it came to the Size and data being saved
(This Does Stop the Loading of Any not Made using this Enhanced version) i did this because i hear there was much curruption issues when it came to the normal Savestate option ?

Combined RTS/cheat states use the version magic `EZRTSC01`.
- RTS-only states use the version magic `EZRTSO01`.
- The final eight signature bytes are patched with the ROM game code and ROM byte size.
- LOAD verifies all 16 signature bytes and rejects incompatible, blank, partial, wrong-game, or wrong-engine states.
- The combined engine blocks SAVE and LOAD whenever RTS is disabled.
- SAVE invalidates the old marker before writing payload and commits the valid marker last.

SD/FAT safeguards
- `.rts` files must be exactly `0x70000` bytes.
- File creation checks every write, `f_sync`, final size, and close result.
- File loading checks every 64 KiB read before copying it into cartridge state RAM.
- The cartridge signature is invalidated before SD loading, so a failed read cannot leave an older state appearing valid.
- FAT extent-table writes are bounded; highly fragmented files fail safely instead of writing beyond the table.

I've made a new lightweight text file viewer to replace the one currently included with DS Style. This one has simple easy to use controls, and the UI is in English. It will be replacing the current one in future updates, but for now you can install it by replacing the current one in SYSTEM/PLUG/txt.bin
I find it useful for adding txt guides for games to the Omega.

I'm sharing with you my collection of square thumbnails, it's a mix of ones I found here and there (Steamgrid, IGN, Google, DuckDuckGo…) and ones I modified or created.

They are more like modern console game icons, with a large illustration and a title. I tried to make them readable at the low resolution, but well, it is what it is.

There also are some directory icons, for emulated consoles or game genres. The symbolic icons for game genre were taken from GNOME's icons or designed by myself.

Lovely! My only complaint is that it's slow, but I assume you'll be able to improve it with time.

Any idea if we could have minimal MarkDown support? Just having some headings, bold and maybe rulers would be a lot.

Just tried it.

I have my boot mode set to "Menu" in the settings, and after I play a game and restart and I try to start the game from the boot menu, instead of it showing me the boot options, the menu blinks and doesn't bring up the menu. I did a short video so you can see what I mean.

I reverted back to the stock 7.3 and the problem went away.

Thanks for this the person i made the mod for, did not mention any of this but then again i dont think they really tested this "in all formats" i will see what i can do .. Really i migth just go back to the Cheat Engine\Savestate fix only and leave the optimizations along. Unless i get one for my self . Since then i can actualy test the Optimizations

Will see what i can do to fix this bug ..

im guessing everything worked up to the first reset ?

is it normal that the RTC just resets to 12 AM occasionally? Asking because i wasn't sure if this was a problem with this kernel or
my RTC battery dying as I've only had this cart for about a year so I thought it should have life in it.

I've only seen this happen with this kernel on the later versions like 7.3 and 7.4.
