Hey everyone, I’ve been spending time on alerts.globaleas.org lately and thought it would be awesome to have something like it as a simple Wii homebrew app.
I don't know how to code, so I wanted to throw this out there to see if any devs want a fun, quick networking project. The goal is pretty straightforward. It would be a simple app that connects to the internet, parses the raw live text and audio data from the GlobalEAS API, and displays active national alerts.
Visually, it would be cool if it replicated an authentic DASDEC broadcast layout with the classic solid blue box, sharp red border, and static white text that switches pages for longer messages. It would be awesome if you could use the Wii Remote to click through a list of multiple active alerts from across the country to view their text and play their audio.
The API data is free and public domain. I'd be happy to help test the files on my Wii if anyone ever wants to try making this!

What would be just as interesting is seeing those alerts on the News Channel. An emergency is a form of news after all. Since the News Channel fetches data using WiiLink, perhaps any alerts can be forwarded onto there?

Ofc a dedicated app may do just as well, but I thought of sharing that theory aloud.
