    Hacking Question Donwgrading by upgrading...

In theory, you could probably change the firmware image in a way that causes it to expect / accept a different eFuse configuration. Firmware packages are signed, though. Changing the code would invalidate the signature and you would need to re-sign everything for the switch to accept it. I'm not...

    Hacking Question Donwgrading by upgrading...

I don't know if this is theoretically doable - but IF you managed to do it, the older FW you have just installed will recognize that a downgrade has been performed due to the eFuses burned by the previously installed higher FW version and refuse to boot.

Very adult. Also, this only applies to physical items. It says so quite clearly. Learn to read.

Alright, I'll humor you. Here's what I get when I google "law of buying and reselling": I'd like to point your attention to the fourth entry, which essentially disproves everything you have said. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/5-things-you-cant-resell-2013-03-21 Oh shit, I just realized...

Well, I am truly sorry to burst your bubble, but a law called "law of buying and reselling" simply does not exist. You want to stop having to repeat yourself? Post a link to whatever law you are talking about.

AGAIN FOR THE 100000000TH TIME. Law of me always being right, look it the fuck up despite me not giving you the exact name or paragraph instead of spouting things I call random nonsense because I have no factual arguments against them making it seem ur right wich you're not because that would...

Ok wow, sorry, but I just had to respond to that again. You cannot seriously tell me that your train of thought for this entire discussion was "Nintendo has done something you don't agree with, they are a big company and because an individual person is always right and a company is always wrong...

Buying a key is not illegal. Buying an account is usually a violation of the services TOS, but in itself not illegal. Buying a stolen key on a normal market (ebay, flea market, G2A, ...) is not illegal. Buying an account for the sole purpose of installing a game on your console is not illegal...

You said this (highlighting by me): That is incorrect. He does not need to tell you this for the transaction to be illegal. It is enough for the seller to arise suspicion. Which the seller in the case of OP clearly did.

Again, no idea about the legislation in the US; in Germany, buying stolen goods is illegal if you knowingly buy them OR if you should have had reasonable doubt about they legality. For example, lets say I went to an electronic retailer and wanted to buy a TV, and the sales assistant told me I...

He did not buy a key. He bought an entire account with the game already on it. That is different, as buying an account is in no way a method commonly used as a legal way to trade games.

Definitely agree with you there; I think a ban of the offending account(s) would have sufficed in this case. I'm just extremely curious if, by doing this, Nintendo has actually broken any laws. It's possible as well that they are within a grey area here...

Well, using any of the online services requires you to agree to their TOS; therefore, if you violate their TOS, they have the right to ban you from their online service. I think you might have a case if there are multiple people sharing ownership device, since then other people would be punished...

Sure, no problem. Let's just agree to disagree, and everyone reading this thread can freely decide to believe you without any prove or simply remain skeptical. (By the way, I'm still interested in this case; does anyone else know if such a law exists? I genuinely would like to know and read it).

I do. Their support page says they do. So, even if they are not actively doing it (or only in special cases, or whatever) they reserve the right to ban your entire account for stealing games or trading other accounts. I don't know what more proof you could ask for beyond steam literally saying...
