    if you happen to have an old wifi router around this is what solved it for me, i was about to buy a LAN adapter when i tried plugging in some very old router i had and it worked. My normal wifi is too new for the wii, it would connect but have a really hard time staying connected.

    WRONG, FAT32 is what you need not FAT16. For each SD card i tried I used RUFUS to format each of my SD cards as "Large FAT32" with MBR style partition and then copied over the contents of the ModMii generated folder. And Sandisk 32GB SDHC is what's in there now + also what I modded it with.
