I have built two PCs thanks to my grad school roommate teaching me way back when it was actually tough to do. Very happy to see that the times have evolved to most things actually being compatible with each other.
Had to rebuild those PCs a couple of times each over the years. Most recently added Unicorn vomit ARGB to my PC, and me and my daughter are quite amused by it.
My PC is fairly underpowered by today's standards, but it is more than enough to get great gaming on my living room TV. I am outputting 4K at 60fps on my hand-me-down "R9 290 Gaming 4G" using an active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Sucks that I can't get VRR to work through that adapter, but it is worth it to get 4K internally rendered emulation at an internal 60fps (when settings are done correctly) viewed on a 4K 60hz 65 inch TV. The HDR still works through the adapter, too.
I am primarily a console gamer, but as I have been playing my old games on the original systems with the newest HDMI adapters, I have found that their quality really varies, and they have inconsistent performance depending on the game and the TV. With the advances in emulation the past 3-4 years (especially the last two years with DuckStation and PCSX2), I am committing to playing my old games in the nicest way possible through the PC. If there isn't a remaster yet, we can make them ourselves with a little patience and motivation. These old games can be relived as a new experience for ourselves, our kids, and for the latest generation of gamers.
