    I'd say check what kind of video is in the file. If you use VLC for a media player on your computer open the file in it and go to Tools and Select Codec Information. You should see something like: Stream 0 Type: Video Codec: something If the codec says H264 you're out of luck. If you don't...

People will often say format the SD card and emphasize using the Panasonic Formatter. I'm just curious as to what makes that particular formatter better than any other method...

    Answer to why they are there: (And Yes it's cause of OS X) http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20578 You can on your mac or PC (I've had to do this before) show hidden files and then search the drive for ._ and then just delete them all.
