    Turns out my boot file was fine in that it was the correct one, what was happening was that my computer was automatically adding a layer of encryption to the files (hence the tiny lock icon on the boot.firm in the screenshot). Maybe this is your problem too.

    I finally got it to work. For anyone else with the same problem, apparently there was something wrong with my boot.firm file. I was kindly given the correct one at the Nintendo Homebew discord.     Yeah I don't think it's a contact problem because my 3DS can detect my R4i card when it's not in ntrboot mode.
