    It isn't hacked. I've tried the first suggestion, but I can't do the second because it's the newer xl with the chip on the motherboard instead of the connector. The third one I haven't done though, so I'll try that after I try the magnet trick and replacing the cartridge reader.

    So, small update. Unplugging the game cartridge reader caused it to start briefly coming up with the main screen prior to going back to the error code. I plugged it back in afterwards and it's still giving me about 1.5-2 seconds prior to going over to the Error Has Occurred screen, so I'm going...

    I'll have to try this later on. I don't have one on hand at work, but I believe I do at home. auto That's the thing - I did that earlier. Prior to disconnecting it, whenever I'd boot, the screens would be black. With it disconnected, it boots to the "Error has occurred" screen.
