    If you have an Action replay for 3ds you can use that to bypass the block; thats what I did for my Acekard 2i on my "New" 3ds and my original 3ds. :) Just plug it in and press the start button to start game. the only downfall though was that you would have the action replay sticking out, but if...

    I would make a backup up the 9.0 band just in case he does want to go back to that firmware. :) you should make backups anyways, but he won't regret it as much cause he would have that backup.

    The AceKard 2i will work if you have it booted up with a action replay. Works everytime. Downfall is that you will have your action replay sticking out because of how they make them. :)

    put devmenu on root of sd then use BBM.3ds on gateway and boot it up and install devmenu. thats what i did

    You might have a bad version of it. Mine is version 6.2 and its works perfect. :)

    So you can format 9.x firmware without having to update if not you arent connected to the internet on old 3DS and "NEW" New 3DS? :)

    You could put the SD in a camera or something and copy the files over through USB.
