There's webpage monitoring software that automatically restores old backups of pages if it detects any sort of issue, It sounds to me like its something like that because literally nothing else would make sense.
It may work completley fine without it if its a filter cap, or you can try bridging the pads. Without a schematic or the cap that you lost theres no way to tell other than asking someone else to test the cap on their board

I think most people would be fine buying it if it wasn't from sketchy resellers that have been sending used codes or taking multiple days just to send a code. I don't think the moneys an issue, just that its more convenient to get a cracked copy than to deal with those sites.
The cannonball makefile looks really specialized to the cannonball project so it makes sense it would take a long time to adapt to something else. I like to start with the makefile from the switchbrew examples and then add what I need from there.
Download one of the sample makfiles from the switchbrew examples repo, then make the changes that i mentioned.
