    I'm willing to bet those are pieces of glue from the lens that have dried up and gotten loose. I've tried replacing the lens of my 3DSes and it's a hassle. I used a hairdryer to melt the glue behind the lens so I could remove it, but this had a side effect of fricking with the hinge mechanism...

    Did you upgrade the storage size of your SD card before updating RetroArch? It's well know that larger SD cards cause the 3DS to load slower, however that wouldn't explain why your menu is slower too.
