    Uh, yeah, looks like you'll need to open it in QTCreator and compile from there. It also seems to somehow use microsoft visual c++.

    Just update dude. The "homebrew launcher breaking," as you call it, is just you having an outdated version. All you need to do is update your homebrew launcher, and update luma3ds while you're at it (get the latest stable version, that's fine; or use the updater cia, it doesn't really matter)...
