Hacking Discussion R4S Dongle revealed for Switch

No luck so far with R4S. I can replace the UF2 and it's apparently flashed, but during RCM mode, it won't power on (from the videos i saw, it should come up with a red led). It does have power if i boot Horizon normally (blue led), and also if i plug it into any other device with a powered USB-C...

Hacking Finally Someone Tweets Why Pin 9 with 10 is BAD!

Except it’s not true. I have pins 9 and 10 bridged on the test pads and the joycon works WITHOUT bluetooth.

Hacking Clearing up a Misconception about SDXC cards update

For people going the TX Dongle / OS route, there's no point, really. Homebrew is supported and you can cold boot if you want.

Hacking Discussion Bricking your Switch on purpose or: How AutoRCM works

The way you put it on the first post sounded like you’re refering to it as if it was similiar to the Wii / Wii U boot0, not a boot partition on the NAND. :)

Hacking Discussion Bricking your Switch on purpose or: How AutoRCM works

I stand corrected. But AFAIK, there’s no such thing as a “boot0” on the Switch. The Tegra BootROM is the first-stage loader. You might be thinking of boot2...

Hacking Discussion Bricking your Switch on purpose or: How AutoRCM works

I don’t think that’s how it works. It’s probably setting a system flag to trigger RCM: http://switchbrew.org/index.php?title=Recovery_Mode

Hacking New TX SX Information: New FAQs and Homebrew Support Confirmed for Launch

This so called "Xecuter OS" is started from a payload on RCM mode. So yes, you don't need their dongle to use it.

Hacking [RCM] hekate-ipl for 5.0.x + working hb menu

To be honest, i think that in all cases where the Joycon operation becomes erratic, it’s because the modder messed up and shorted or damaged other pins. But as you said, i guess it’s to each his own.

I've done this mod myself and have no reason to lie. My Switch and Joycon have been working just fine since i did it. But it's simple eletronics: the test pads are there so that the pins can be tested. Take a multimeter and test the continuity and you will see for yourself.

Not sure what you mean by gargabe, as I’ve been using a similar tool for the past 25 years without any issue. And before that, my father and uncle used the same type of tool. Solder pumps have been tried and tested for the past 50 years, so I’ll assume you’re doing something very wrong with it.

You undo by heating the solder again and using a desoldering pump, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/WEmake-WM-SP4-Solder-Sucker-desoldering/dp/B0002KRAAG

If it's thin enough and doesn't short any other pins, it should be fine. If you do go the solder route, it's very easy to undo later on as well, so i wouldn't call it "permanent".
