    Turns out it was 3.4e. When modmii gave me my guide it told me what wads to install. However there were about 6 more wads in the folder but no mention to install them so I left them. They had long file names. With [ es etc etc ] at the end I went back thru modmii choosing just to upgrade to 4.1...

    i started with a complete freshly formatted sd card so that rules out the old wads. i did try to format the wii system before i did modmii hoping it would wipe the old mod off and virginise my wii. however after 4 hours it still said formatting. so i just powered the wii off. it still worked...
