    There's no visible damage. Out of frustration, before I disassembled it, I hit the dpad a few times hard, but I didn't think that that would actually damage the motherboard.

    Ok, but my problem occurs even when the pads are not in the contacts, I took them off, so just the bare motherboard was showing through the dpad slot, and powered it up. I wait like 20-30 seconds, and it goes on it's own. Also, tried it with the dpad reassembled, the other buttons are unresponsive.

    So if I understand, I have to solder over the contacts, then scrape it off, not reheating it and wipeing. (would steel wool work?) Mech, you mentioned cleaner, I live out in the country side, and I don't speak much German (I live there), so what kind of cleaner would you suggest? If I've got...

    You mean clean it off? (Sorry, xenophobic American) Also, if I did re tin the contacts on the motherboard, then wouldn't they raise up enough to touch the contacts on the sticker without being pushed?
