Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Still looking for advice on this, if anyone has any. No idea what would cause it to work,  then fail (at least the second time; I know why the first did).

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

After some successful boots, subsequent failure (as a consequence of the horrible hack to the chip), switching to a -ZERO like we should've started with, a further amount of successful boots, and now further subsequent failure... Any ideas? It blinks orange (D0) currently, and boots without the...

Need to find the thermal paste before re-assembly, but, success!

Yeah, I wish it was that easy... that's what I get for trying a ONE, I guess.

Update: not the things I had in mind but it worked

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Apparently the two normal Pi Picos I have on hand are B2 and E6 6 so perhaps it's time to try horrible things.

Pray forgive that even with search tools it's difficult to find things in a thread this large. Confirms the suspicions, DE 62.

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Trying three different ways of making machine.unique_id() legible hex in MicroPython all gave me the same result of DE 62, or if it's somehow backward, 2C 6E. Safe to say the 4MB flash is of the 'wrong' starting portion.

I have no simple way to confirm the start of the flash ID; I tried compiling the example, both as is and modified for USB output, and got nowhere.

Echoing lack of success with an "RP2040-ONE", single red blink. My best guess is the flash ID differs from expectations, given the one notable difference is a different flash capacity. Presumably 2.6 would thusly make it work, but no ETA means probably worth returning and trying the Zero.

Exciting work! Can finally make use of my Lite and/or OLED as nicer versions of emulator handhelds.

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

I'm personally only any good at RE when I have source or at least a legible decompilation. Having to get into disassembly is outside my wheelhouse.

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Fair enough; I don't know offhand what people do and don't know and it's hard enough trying to parse info out of here. Considering 'original' here, I'd assume this is that the "Ubuntu-only" firmware bypasses running a payload if the combination is held? I'm very unsure what to take away from...

Hacking Hardware Picofly - a HWFLY switch modchip

Given the seeming lack of context before it being posted and the very obvious pico ID in the file name, I'd hazard a guess it's meant for the ID in question.
