    I have now gone through 5 DS Lites. They all work perfectly well when I start the process. I think I've narrowed the problem down to removing the bottom screen. It will work and boot fine until the lower screen is removed. Once I've done this, it is done working forever, no matter how many times...

    When it's plugged in, the same thing happens, except the orange light is on too. I'll give your other suggestion a go and report back what happens.
