    Oh!! I find it strange that a Western Digital external hard drive has compatibility issues. Assuming you haven't forgotten to format it in fat32 with Allocation unit size at 32k, it might be a good idea to check the cIOS (syscheck), as RunningSnakes suggested. How much capacity is the drive?

    Maybe he has some device connected to the top USB port. I think that could cause problems with the retroarch cores.
