This is the last official version of the R4 kernel that was modified to work with the M3 DS Simply carts. The hardware on the other hand; although it uses the same hardware as the Original R4DS, it cannot be exchanged with the R4 kernel, because a jumper was bridged to only make their carts work with their kernel only.
I was able to figure out how to patch the hardware check (although, not the function where it does the check), but only four bytes needed to be patched to 'spoof' the kernel in a way to make it think that it's running on the DS Simply card.
The following changes were made to '_DS_MENU.DAT' after decryption:
Before: 0xDF70 = 7D, 0xECDC = 7D, 0xEE3C = 7D, 0xF9E8 = 7D
After: 0xDF70 = 75, 0xECDC = 75, 0xEE3C = 75, 0xF9E8 = 75
