I think most of us just got served some humble pie. I don't mind though, it tasted pretty good as a matter of fact lol. I think I agree with him on the count of Nintendo not doing anything. At the end of the day, it would be really hard for them to actually do anything. And they have loads of money already. If I was Nintendo, I just wouldn't bother to be honest.

Also, I wasn't really clear on what he was saying about CFW. Was he just saying the only real reason for CFW will be patching the IOS, and that it won't be used for 'warez'?

Not a bad read, but he missed the mark about banning.

This is the first console for Nintendo that features online content in the way of commercial games. To think they won't do anything to protect their intellectual property is naive.

Once the red light goes off that people have been stealing Virtual Console and WiiWare titles, they aren't going to stand idly by and allow it to happen. If they take care of the piracy issue, you can be guaranteed they're going to be smart about it and kill two birds with one stone, which means goodbye homebrew.

For those who think the Virtual Console is of little concern to Nintendo, as they're just re-released games that they're banking off of, what about WiiWare? Those titles are from independent, small publication companies that appreciate the revenue and won't appreciate the theft.

I worked in the PSP scene, and to be able to "unbrick", we had to get the eeprom in the battery to read from the memory stick. This COULD be possible cause of the Wii's front SD slot

1. It doesn't sound like you know how the "Pandora's Batteries" work.
2. Just no.

Ok, I've been around the PSP scene since 1.5 like a few others, AND THATS HOW THE PANDORA BATTERY WORKS!

How else do you unbrick? It modifies the EEPROM of the battery to get into service mode, which then reads the IPL from the "magic memory stick". Same thing could be applied here.

Don't try to act like you know whats going on.

And a side note: Im beginning to wonder if the wii's nand is like the PSP?

boot0=flash0 ?
boot1=flash1 ?
boot2=flash2 ?

just a thought. But ill put this in. In psp, flash0 were the critical firmware files (might be like the wii system menu or IOS)
flash1 had all the settings (maybe in the wii its your region/date/time).......... interesting.
whats with your boot=flash crap? haha n00b,flash 0 is the main system files(well most of them, theres a hidden area not avalable from standard homebrew programs) flash 1 is all theme stuff and stuff like system setting, flash 2 is for psx games i think something to do with saves, the wii boot 1,2,3 doesnt corrispond to flash in any way or form, why u think its called BOOT, all the boot processes happen befor the wii even passes anything to the user when you press power i believe, was there even a boot0 in the wii? god im happy u never hacked the wii, super brickage. your theory is that the wii boots boot0(lol) then has a constant boot of boot1(lolz) and then to run what would be gamecube it boots boot2 to load gamesaves?(lolololol) seriously.

Linkinworm, just go sit in the corner...

You're not contributing anything to the thread, other than insults. Completely unnecessary.

go support his theory then. hes giving faulse information on how stuff works when he doesnt know what hes on about tbh. if he read the right articals he would have known how the wii "starlet" works and what corner can u get on the internet? did u read about his pandora post, how the hell would the wii get into "serivce" mode, ok yea you could use the SD card, but how do u write a program to boot a custom IPL befor loading anything else, the wii doesnt let the user do anything with starlet, the wii in homebrew mode is still in that crashed state so dont say homebrewchannel or anything like that, you always get 1min play time log after useing the homebrew channel, so there you do,

you want me to contribute to the thread then here it is, everything bushing said is true, theres no need and wont be a "pandoras" wii mode unbricker, you brick your wii thats it game over. the wii isnt a psp yea its a totaly different system, you think i dont know what im on about, find the thread about waninkoko and read my post on how the wii used IOS( it was pretty long post you cant miss it page 2 i think) no one even mentioned any of that about the wii storing older IOS sysem files, dont say im not contributing, im clearing stuff up, if i seem agressive then ok, but people trying to sound smart when they dont know anything is annoying to read

Nobody has yet to agree with him, so I doubt his speculations are getting very far.

Your posts will go further with proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

As for corners on the net.... you have the choice of porn or fanfiction.

That was a pretty quick trainwreck of a thread.

mcj, valiant effort, but don't expect the majority of people to be smart about things or read up on them on GBAtemp, much less the internet.

e: To contribute, Bushing's right about custom firmware. Homebrew and piracy are available and (somewhat) easy to do for those who want to. There's no need for custom firmware at this point in the console's life.

Linkin, have you ever heard the old saying "You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar"?

Being offensive when it's not necessary is just as annoying and detrimental as posting false information.

As far as not caring about grammar, punctuation, or spelling, you really should... as that's what language is all about. Not only will people respect you more if you can convey your message intelligibly, but it makes it a lot easier to read.

Now, as far as the Starlet is concerned, you're right. It's going to be very hard to circumvent via software. We're more likely to see a hardware solution in the way of a stream processor, shorting a bus, or another unimaginable method.

Like I said before, Bushing's right about everything, except banning, for the reasons I stated before.

Simply put, then you shouldn't expect anyone to care what you have to say...

Famicom MODEM is a modem that allowed connection to a Nintendo server which provided content such as jokes, news (mainly about Nintendo), game tips, and weather reports for Japan; it also allowed a small number of programs to be downloaded. A modem was, however, tested in the United States, by the Minnesota State Lottery. It would have allowed players to buy scratchcards and play the lottery with their NES. It was not released because minors were able to play the lottery illegally and anonymously.

No.

Learn a bit of history please. Nintendo started online gaming all the way back with the NES.

Uh, why don't you learn how to get facts straight...

For one, citing Wikipedia is the equivalent of getting a haircut from a hobo.

Two, I explicitly said commercial games... as in, games that are able to be purchased.

You could also download games using a satellite modem on the SNES. (subscription required)

Yeah... you're still not saying anything noteworthy.

The Wii is still the first Nintendo console with a market for commercial games...

Because I can totally see all these Wiiware titles on the shelf in the store.... *sigh*

BS games on the snes are exactly the same and felix123 is right.

Just because there was no market outside japan doesn't mean there was no market...
