May it be launchers, Explorer replacements, or even hacks.

My favorite is winroll.
Lets you roll windows up to the title bar by right clicking it. Also lets you set transparency to windows.

Yours?
Xgl (though it doesn't really count as an app I guess, second would be the new KDE but I guess that also doesn't count.....).

also some useful shortcut keys when typing text:
- Ctrl+Left/Right to skip a word
- Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right to select a word
- Shift+Up/Down to select a line
- click somewhere in a text, hold Shift, click somewhere else... makes a selection without having to hold the mouse button.
etc...

[windows "pirate flag" key] + M

It minimizes everything right away so my mom can't see my studying. Biochemistry.

of course, there's more:

*learning how to type correctly, that speeds things up 'mazingly a lot.

FIREFOX:
*CTRL + L brings you to the url section
*CTRL + K brings you to search
*QuickSearch in firefox, so "wp" is the wikipedia command --> you can even make your own!! (ask me how if you're confused...)
*CTRL + B goes to my bookmarks
*CTRL + F search the website
*CTRL + W close tab/window
*CTRL + pgup/pgdown let's you navigate all of your tabs
*type in your url and hit alt + enter to get a new tab
*backspace takes you back to previous page
*If you have a folder of bookmarks, middle click on it (or look through options with right click) to open all of those pages in tabs
*"close all other tabs" helps clear out unneeded research leads
*google sync. all the way. since I have more than one computer
*google notebook is also great, although I don't use it as much any more
*downthemall! let's you download things in a flash

oh, and one more thing: Yarr, windows key!!

phoood

taking it to a whole new level.

7zip/winrar context menu, without it I would spend forever decompressing stuff.

That does not really count though so the toolbar at the top of my screen, simple but oh so effective.

"Extract to Desktop\cnr_2.5.4 (eng)\"
Also I love "Extract each archive to separate folder"

Firefox pimped with 50+ extensions.

50 is a bit too much for me.

control and T make a new tab just as easily for me but I revise my intial offering and will go with the second monitor thing as well: it started off as a novelty and only really used for multiplayer VBA and has now reached the stage where I can not really use a machine effecitvely without it (anyone that doubts it try it and see. Going to try and find a couple more and see what four or six (extra two via network cable) monitors is like though.

Quoted for the truth.

OS X is productive enough for me but these little parts of the system help me in a large way:

F9, F10, F11 - Access the different modes of Exposé for switching between programs. Exposé is a god send.
F12 - Access Dashboard

Get SteerMouse and tie a mouse button to F9.
THEN Expose is a godsend! Best idea ever.
