I’ve just opened my 360 to clean dust and I’ve found out I have a fan mod and I’ve heard it’s not good so how do I fix it

I'd honestly say leave it as is.

If you 're keen on reverting the mod, you'll have to snip the fan leads from the DVD drive leads and solder everything back to the original place.
There's a chance the previous owner ditched the fan plug, making it harder to restore it.

Also what about the screws and bolts on the bottom of the board

What godreborn said.

I'd honestly trash it, washers and bolts put way to much uneven tension on the board, microscopicly warping it and putting the BGA under strain.

If it's all working fine then I'd say leave it as is.
The machine likely suffered from a cold solder joint and the gamestop pillocks quickly mended it to flog it off.

So I shouldn’t mod it?

not unless you know how that fan mod is installed. I've installed new fans in a xenon, didn't help it last. however, it was just in the same connector as the normal fans, so it was a very easy swap out.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

btw, the system does look pretty dirty based on that pic. the fan shroud looks disgusting. lol, like the person who owned it smoked or something. it looks like tar on it.

only if you know what you're doing. if that's not cigarette tar, I don't know what it is. it looks pretty dirty though.

yeah, the heatsinks look cleaner, but one of the big things for me was the fan shroud, which is missing in that picture.

Gamestop always uses this fan mod/bolts on any 360 they service

It's a solid motherboard, I would replace the fan with a stock 3 pin then swap the bolts with xclamps - that's just going to break the console for a repair that likely was something different

it's better to use nylon washers than bolts. I'm not sure if bolts is what they originally used (probably), as I've always bought 360s used. and, the xclamps had been removed from all of them.
