I just want homebrew for emulators and rtp2k and I'm on 4.1 btw and I heard that 4.1 needs a hard mod so what happened to Deja Vou? That exploit for 4.1 and lower to get into the Homebrew Launcher.

Exploits exist for 3.0.1-4.1.0, but with Fusée Gelée being released this summer for all system versions (pre-hardware revision), there isn't any need to consume this exploit. In other words, future Switch systems will still be exploitable or partially exploitable by the aforementioned exploits, so there's no reason to let Nintendo study them and patch them completely.

Edit: It has been noted that the aforementioned exploits might be used to play around with newer Switch systems that come out post-hardware revision, for example.

The "hardmod" that Fusée Gelée will require on 3.0.1+ is allegedly very easy to perform and shouldn't worry you. If you want to wait an indeterminate amount of time after Fusée Gelée is released to the public, the software exploits for 4.1 will eventually be released. However, it probably won't be worth the wait.

IDK I just don't want to open up my switch and fiddle with it.

If that's the case, then you can wait for the software exploits for 4.1 to be released. However, it could be months or even years after the release of Fusée Gelée before that happens.

It has been said though that the "hardmod" shouldn't be difficult for anyone who is okay with temporarily taking out some screws and detaching a ribbon cable.

If you're going to do the "easy hardmod" and you're on 3.0.1 or higher, then there's apparently no reason not to update.

If you don't want to do the hardmod and don't mind waiting, then you shouldn't update. If you're going to do the hardmod, then there's no reason not to update.

They are holding off because it still exists in newer firmwares and they want to use it to poke at the new SoC and potentially even have a cfw option for those units if they are kept on lower firmwares by those using them. They opted to use FG instead as its both better and already known by multiple parties anyway
