Homebrew what ds to pick? what edition? where to buy?

A lot of people get a ds lite, myself I have a dsi xl they both come at about 40 dollars it seems if you want a limited edition skin ds lite or dsi it may cost around 100. The orginal ds has a gba slot if you have some gba cartridges and seems to be the cheapest but may break easily

I would say DSi XL as it has IPS panels. The games look really good on it.

If you're serious about a DS, get a DSi.
Spend some money on a hardmod and you'll be able to play injected DSi Wares as well.

I don't see why you wouldn't want to get a 3DS model. Everything but N3DS is under $200. A 2DS is easy to find and is only $80, while people might be selling DS models for over $100 since they're no longer in production.

edit: I checked Amazon and the pricing is in the range of $30-$40 but I'm still curious

This is true, but mostly dsi normal and special editions go for over $100 though the ds lite maybe that amount too depending on the version.
