Here is one Nintendo employe thoughts on it.

We still don’t know if you can play Wii games in the Wii U GamePad. It’s not confirmed, we don’t have any information yet, but as you say (speaking to the interviewer) Wii U is… you can play old Wii games, and as you also said, the Sensor Bar is included in the Wii U GamePad, so you are able to point the Wii Remote at the Wii U GamePad. It makes sense, but we have no information or confirmation about this feature.Being able to play Wii titles on the GamePad would be pretty darn neat. Though, I can imagine it’d be odd controlling some of the console’s titles…

If they do add such a feature, I can see 2 people playing 2 different wii games on one system.

It'd be neat.... for some games. Some would be annoying. Like Wario Ware. That'd be impossible. x_x

This would be cool in theory, but in reality it prolly be awkward since the gamepad screen is much smaller than a t.v. screen and without out a stand, the gamepad would have to be propped against a wall...bring on apps though :P

I'm sure either Nintendo or at least one 3rd party will be selling Upad stands.

Plus people didn't mind playing on small screens. Like so.

See? One was already made. :P

I bet they will have stands everywhere, but I'd definitely not like to carry that around with me. I'll stick with the 3DS for portable gaming for now. I find playing on small screens awkward and so I'd rather play on a 36 inch or bigger t.v. If they do pull this off, then good for them, but I wouldn't find myself using the functionality.

Why the touch screen can't be de pointer itself? I mean, when you touch and move it's like moving the pointer.
Touch input is only two dimensions, the wiimote operates in three.
No, the pointer has 2 dimensions, the movement has 3d dimensions because of the accelerometer (The WiiU pad has accelerometers)

I'd doubt that the Wii U will be capable of running two games at the same time.

I'd like there to be an option to play Wii titles just on the GamePad, obviously just for games that don't require pointer control as ones that do play like that for a good reason for me.

Why wouldn't it be able to run two different small games if they set it up that way? (Wii and down including VC)
I'm pretty sure two wii games wouldn't require nearly as much resources as a wii u game. Assuming you can buy digital
wii games off the wii u of course.

I guess it depends on the controls the game uses. Games like NSMBWii where you have to shake the controller to pick up items or fly might be annoying, but fully doable with the UPad in a practical manner.

And I know this is too much to hope for, but it would be really cool if you could use touch screen gestures in place of the Wiimote in certain games.

Also, at the very least, it would be awesome to play virtual console titles on it. Finally, an official Nintendo licensed (semi) portable virtual console for NES, SNES, N64, and maybe GameCube. :D

Depends on the hardware inside and if playing Wii games is emulated or not. I'm guessing it's not emulated seeing Nintendo said games won't be upscaled to HD when played.

Well, it's supposed to be Wii compatible like how the Wii was GameCube compatible, so I assume it has true Wii hardware, not emulation.

It'll be cool for games like Donkey Kong Country Returns which only uses motion control for rolling (and I bet a lot that like in NSMBU, they'll make the ZR button the rolling button), but I really don't expect games like Skyward Sword to work on the GamePad.

Lol. Can you imagine Playing Skyward Sword swiping the touch screen with a stylus or finger? :P

While it would be interesting to use the GamePad for Wii games, I hope they include a port so we can just plug in our old sensor bar. Otherwise I will probably just keep my Wii around for those games...

I'm pretty sure they're going to. the Wii U I'd supposed to be fully Wii compatible.

that said, I'll be keeping my Wii for gcn games anyway

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
    run h2testw on it
