No, it was no hack, it was a preview demo disc that was available prior to the games launch.
https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Resident_Evil_4_Preview_Disc

The Animal Crossing loader was a Phantasy Star Online exploit, that let you stream Animal Crossing over network via the broadband adapter of the GCN.
Later also other games worked with this method.

Ok, thats enough OT for today.

OMG this is amazing, now they can add support for Wii U Pro controller for HBL, please someone implement this, what you say @FIX94 ?

EDIT: Can anyone make a release? I would love to see how this works!, by the way, how do you install it? what if you want to hack the Wii U, how do you do to install the HBC?

I understand now can be installed as a .wad , but in order to do that you have to be able to use HBC already, so is there a way to make an installer from scratch?

OMG <3

This is one of the biggest things; if we know more about the homebrew channel code we could edit it to be better... However it does now mean that it can run on Dolphin and such, but oh well that's OK :P

I FINALLY got it compiled! Title ID is OHBC and it runs on IOS 31 (but why? o0). Don't know if it works in Dolphin, though. It doesn't show up for me when I install the WAD with it. It works on the Wii and shows 1.1.3 as version number :)

EDIT: Showed up in Dolphin, but the emulator crashes.

// EDIT2: Go here

May I ask what is the difference? can I uninstall the first one?

This one is the open source release, it has a different Title ID so it won't be in 4:3 format on vWii. You shouldn't uninstall the 1.1.2 one (the "current one"). This doesn't replace the original.
It doesn't? why not? is there gonna be a way to install this .wad from scratch on "virgin" vWii ?

It's this way so that scammers can't just sell the homebrew channel. One still has to use the HackMii Installer with the scam warning (and that's good this way). the installer isn't open-sourced, someone needs to write one from scratch.

But that scam thing is a thing of the past.. we are all open source now xD

Let me explain it:
Scammer sells HBC and other warez tools to user -> he installs it -> sees scam warning -> demands money back -> bad for scammer
HBC is now open-source, but WITHOUT the installer, so nothing changed about this. To install the HBC one first has to install the HBC (HBC-ception!).
Else it would be:
Scammer sells custom HackMii Installer and other things to user, removes scam warning -> user won't see scam warning -> happy scammer

Okay, so now someone makes an installer from scratch and make it auto updateable and that's it! :D

Dolphin has bugs. 5.0 worked for me with the DOL and the installed channel, but not packed ELFs (the nopax ELF will work). If you have a newer version then you need to wait for this PR. That fixes most of the problems.

I changed the default IOS to IOS58 in the repo. The TMD IOS version used not to matter because the installer would update it, so it was left at IOS31 from the older days. You can change the TMD and use whatever IOS you want.

Nowadays that is nothing to worry about since the Wii is a dead console. A scammer would barely make any money off of it, but they would still make some off of stupid people.

So this new hbc is just a forwarder? Why we do need keep the old one?
No. It is not. It is a full HBC, but without the obfuscation code in it that keeps people from decompiling it. Marcan said in his post that he did test it in dolphin, but not on an actual Wii or Wii U. Knowing his coding skills, if it is compiled correctly, then it should work without any hitches.

So we still need the old one installed to use this one? The only reason to keep the old one is just to install the new one, but I don't know how this work...

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
