I bought myself an original USB Gecko cartridge a while back and have been experimenting with it. I can get it working with a game that is loaded from a disc via my Wii's DVD drive, but most of my games are on a USB hard drive. I currently use Configurable USB Loader to load my games from my USB hard drive.

Is it possible to use the USB Gecko cartridge to hack a game that has been loaded from a USB hard drive? Or will it only work with games loaded via a disc?

yes it's possible.
I don't know Config Loader, but you should have a menu where you can select a hook type before launching the game.

you need to enable :
hook type, maybe "Debug" if you have that option.
Some loaders also have the "debug pause" option, which force a pause at game launch, waiting for you to resume the game using a debugger (wiiRd or gecko dot net)

Thanks Cyan.

I've just had a look at the hook options that Configurable USB Loader offers and there are:

  • No Hooks
  • VBI
  • Wii Pad
  • GC Pad
  • GXDraw
  • GXFlush
  • OSSleepThread
  • AXNextFrame
and that's it. Nothing remotely like "Debug". :(
