Homebrew USB Loader GX doesn't load games?

I ripped Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii from the discs. Super smash bros gets stuck right after opening on a black screen. Mario kart gets stuck on the Wiimote instruction screen. On both of them, the wii remotes disconnect right after opening the game and don't reconnect. No matter how long I waited, neither of them loaded. I am using a 250GB pata drive with a pata-usb adapter. I tried using a 16GB flash drive, but whenever I tried rippings discs, it either reports the wrong game size and give an unspecified error, or it gives me a directory write error. How can I fix this? or is there a better program to use for loading games from USB?
