Honestly, knowing him as well as I did, I think he just kinda gives all credit to the country for finding the love of his life, and just brushed everything else aside. Generally people don't blame the entire country when they have a run-in with corrupt law enforcement. Plenty of that to go around in the US as well. The only difference in the Griner case being that Russia was looking for a political prisoner as leverage during wartime. She shouldn't have given them any excuse to detain her, but even if she hadn't there's a reasonable chance they would've simply made one up instead.

If you are advocating for Russians, that would be one thing, but you are advocating someone who willingly went into this "land of injustice", broke the law of the land, and got treated like a normal person, as injustice.
