[UPDATE] PS Vita firmware 3.72 released, does NOT blacklist Bitter Smile (h-encore²)

ps-vita-1-jpg.173969

UPDATE: TheFloW confirmed the previous tweets about 3.72 adding Bitter Smile to the blacklist were fake news due to him taking a separate source's word for granted. h-encore² is still working and all accompanying documentation on the GitHub repository has been updated to reflect it.

Moreover, it was also confirmed that downgrading from said firmware using modoru still causes a soft brick. Users are advised against doing so.

The updates just don't stop coming today: first the 3DS, and now it's the PS Vita's turn... however, unlike its competitor, things already seem to be bad right from the get-go. System software 3.72 has just landed and it aims to block h-encore², aka TheFloW's updated h-encore exploit for firmware versions 3.65-3.71, which was released only a few hours ago. This was achieved by adding Bitter Smile (the game used by the aforementioned tool as its entry point) to the title revoke list, thus blocking it from working to work on this system version. No official changelog is available just yet, but it doesn't look like any new features were added either.

As such, anyone interested in hacking their system is strongly advised against installing this new firmware. By doing so, you won't be able to softmod your PS Vita again until someone finds another suitable kernel exploit, which may not happen in a long while, if ever (PS: TheFloW is currently looking for help with finding a new savedata exploit). If you're already running a CFW, you should spoof your system version instead of updating. And as usual, this post will be kept up-to-date with any other useful hacking & homebrew related info.

Because I want to be on the last firmware so that all games work with no need for patching
You can install reF00D and all games will work, without the need to install individual compatibility packs and regardless of firmware requirements.

Well, we may have an unexpected turn of events here. The title being blacklisted in 3.72 may not be true after all, TheFloW has taken somebody else's word and believed him.

Considering how things are going, I'll wait before updating the OP to reflect this just in case there may be another debunk or confirmation later on.

Sony forgets at this point almost everyone with interest in cfw have their Vita already hacked. So this doesn't have significant impact.

Although it looks like this is the case, I simply want to wait a bit more. Better safe than sorry.

Ah my bad didn't see that comment. Just assumed you didn't know because you hadn't updated the OP yet.

I did however find this video whilst doing further research. It does show that the exploit being patched but whether you want to take the dev's word or video evidence is up to you.

I wish TheFloW would stick to his morals and wait to release these exploits. Because as we can see Sony will not let the VIta die just yet. Oh well I already have a modded Vita 1000 and PSTV but I would not mind to softmod a 2000. Oh well the wait continues.

Somebody made a tutorial for it on 3.72! Granted it's in Spanish but there's evidence it does work.

I think it's safe to update the OP now as there is evidence it does work.

The video you linked was recorded by what appears to be the same guy that fist mentioned the 3.72 blacklisting. You know what that means.
Anyway, there's enough evidence about the exploit working now, so I'll update the OP.

Yeah. I did link a new video though confirming it does actually work on 3.72 though.

@Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

@Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
